The Digital Pilot today released its first application for the iPad, iPhone, iPod touch platform.

“Power Pilot” is a native iPhone/iPad application for downloading and viewing the FAA Airport/Facilities Directory on an iPad, iPhone, iPod touch device.

TheDigitalPilot.com Website Launch

Today marks the official launch of TheDigitalPilot.com.

The Digital Pilot is dedicated to the promotion of new digital technologies for use in aviation inside and outside the cockpit. We aim to provide review and analysis of new digital aviation data products and avionics systems as well as digital avaition data products previously not possible without the advent of the latest technology like smart phones and low power e-book readers.

Our first products are digital versions of the familiar FAA Airport/Facilities Directory and Terminal Procedures Publication. We plan to offer these publications in new formats on new platforms with faster and cheaper distribution methods, making it easier for pilots to be safe and have the right airport data at their fingertips when and where they need it.

Membership is free and entitles members access to Digital A/FD and the Aviation Library.

FAA A/FD on Amazon Kindle DX

The Amazon Kindle DX is an good platform for displaying and reading Digital A/FD and Digital TPP PDF files in or out of the cockpit. The images below (click to zoom) show an example index page designed especially for using the “Goto Page…” feature of the Kindle DX to jump directly to an A/FD page for an airport!

Download and install Digital A/FD on Kindle DX

The steps to download and install the Digital A/FD PDFs onto a Kindle DX are straightforward:

Download the A/FD files from www.thedigitalpilot.com into a folder for transfer to the Kindle. Note: Free membership required.
Click here for files. Download Link
Attach the Kindle to your PC or MAC via the USB Cable.
Drag the folder with the files into the “documents” folder on the Kindle DX.
The files will now appear on your Kindle DX.
